2010 REDLANDS BOWL SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL
SEASON SCHEDULE 

 

The following schedule is just a brief listing of the programs to come this summer.  Please continue to check this space for artists’ photos and the descriptions of their performances.

There is no charge for the performances. All artist programs begin at 8:15 p.m. and run on Tuesdays and Fridays, with some selected Saturdays.


The Community Sing is on most Tuesday evenings prior to the performances beginning at 7:15 p.m. and led by Curtiss Allen Sr.

THE SAN BERNARDINO SYMPHONY: “Symphony-Songs-Cinema,”
conducted by Frank Paul Fetta.

Friday, June 25

Anthony Kearns, renowned as Ireland’s finest tenor and most widely recognized as a
member of the world famous trio, The Irish Tenors, joins the orchestra for a sensational
solo performance. Co-sponsored by Clara Mae Clem.
   

WINNERS OF THE 59TH ANNUAL YOUNG ARTISTS AUDITIONS. 
Tuesday, June 29

The 2010 winners of the RCMA Young Artists Auditions will perform in recital. Pre-
concert performance by Youth Ensemble of Strings. No Community Sing this evening.

DMITRI MATHENY GROUP.
Tuesday, July 6

Led by master flugelhornist, Dmitri Matheny, this all-star jazz band balances fresh,
original works with polished arrangements of familiar jazz classics and the beloved
standards of the Great American Songbook. Co-sponsored by Glenn Vernet.

   

GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA ®.

The world’s most popular Big Band returns to the Redlands Bowl for a very special
two-night run. More than sixty years after the public first embraced the Miller sound,
both the legend and the music live on. Larry O’Brien, music director.  Co-sponsored
by Carol Baker: Baker’s Drive–Ins.
   

NAVY BAND SOUTHWEST.
Tuesday, July 13

One of the Navy’s oldest and finest military bands takes command of the evening with
a salute to some of America’s favorite music, from pop to patriotic. Co-sponsored by
Redlands Professional Firefighters Association – Local 1354.
   

KEN O’MALLEY AND THE TWILIGHT LORDS.
Friday, July 16
Steeped in the culture, heritage, and song of his native Ireland, front man O’Malley
leads this ensemble of first-class players in a performance of Irish and Scottish music
with a contemporary flair. Guest performance by the Butler Fearon O’Connor Irish
Dance School. Co-sponsored by Paul & Joann Barich.

Meredith Willson’s affectionate tribute to a bygone era follows a fast-talking traveling salesman who cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize, despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen. Paul Jacques, producer/director. CELTIC CROSSROADS.

Just when you think that you have seen the best that Irish music has to offer, a fresh new show from Ireland is taking the art form to an entirely new level. Celtic Crossroads presents Irish music like never before, they are doing to Irish music what Riverdance has done to Irish dance.

Carole Beswick narrates “Peter and the Wolf,” followed by violin prodigy Miclen
LaiPang performing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor. Co-sponsored by a
grant from David & Robin Maupin of Maupin Financial Services in thankfulness
to the children of Micah House.
   

NANCY WALKER: A Tribute to Patsy Cline.
Tuesday, Aug. 3
Nancy’s captivating vocals and her fabulous country band light up the stage in this
musical tribute to one of the greatest singers in the history of country music.  Co-
sponsored by
Ken & Judith Stanford.
   

A MAGICAL NIGHT OF OPERA.
Friday, Aug. 6
Frank Paul Fetta, conductor. Some of the greatest arias of all time take center stage in an evening of exquisite music from the grand operas. Co-sponsored by ESRI.
   

MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CENTER BAND.
Tuesday, Aug. 10

Performing a wide variety of popular tunes, marches, and patriotic songs, the band
carries on their proud tradition of musical excellence highlighted by good-natured
humor and superlative ensemble and solo work. Co-sponsored by Dick & Theresa
Larsen.

   

INLAND PACIFIC BALLET: “The Little Mermaid.”
Friday, Aug. 13 &
Saturday, Aug. 14
Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved fairy tale about a mermaid who gives up her life in the sea to become human and win the love of a human prince comes to life in a ballet that creates a magical ocean world. A surprise ending adds special joy to this
enchanted love story.  Co-sponsored by Norma Nesbitt & La-Z-Boy West.
   

MASSENKOFF RUSSIAN FOLK FESTIVAL.  
Tuesday, August 17
Starring singer Nikolai Massenkoff, the program features a virtuoso balalaika ensemble and exuberant Russian folk dancing. The beautiful costumes and passionate music brilliantly depict a thrilling journey to the heart of Russian culture. Co-sponsored by the Law Offices of Horspool & Parker, APC.

 conducted by Frank Paul Fetta.

Friday, August 20

Guest pianist Rufus Choi performs Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of
Paganini.”  Fireworks will accompany the orchestra finale. Co-sponsored by
